What to Expect at Your Child’s First Visit to the Pediatric Dentist

By November 25, 2020 No Comments

Hello parents! My name is Dr. Oriana Ly-Mapes and I am a Pediatric Dentist at Smiles On The Canal Dentistry in Fairport, New York. As a mom of four kids I know just how nerve-wrecking it can be to take your child to a new medical provider. My goal is to ease your anxiety or the anxiety that your child might have before even meeting me.

Here is what to expect at the first visit…now this might be a surprise to you, but we typically do not do treatment at the first visit, instead we use that time to get to know each other and discuss any concerns that you might have. I will also use this time to begin to earn your child’s trust. We’ll do an exam, take a closer look and take any x-rays if they’re needed. We then spend some time talking about options that we have available to make sure that your child has a positive lifelong dental experience.

My hope is to be able to see your family for many years to come. Keep in mind that it is normal for children to be nervous and it is normal for parents to have reservations about how they think their child is going to react. In actuality, there is nothing to be embarrassed about and certainly nothing that I haven’t already seen before, whether here in the office or even in my own home!

Hopefully this knowledge puts you more at ease, and I hope to see you soon!
